This Giving Tuesday, Please support the The mission of Blackland CDC:

To foster a safe, sustainable, inclusive community that strives for social equality by preserving and enhancing the stock of affordable housing and providing supportive programs for Blackland residents.

Please share your love with the Households we serve this giving Tuesday.

At Blackland Community Development Corporation, we believe that everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Far too many families in our community struggle to find stable, affordable housing in central Austin. Thanks to the continued work of Blackland CDC, 130 people – mothers, fathers, children, aunts, uncles, and grandparents – have a safe, affordable place to call home. Since 1983 , we have helped more than 1,100 families, keeping innumerable people from succumbing to Austin’s growing homeless population.

From our beginnings as a community of residents with a low income pushing back against the powerful University of Texas, our story has been one of community power, fighting against the odds for dignity and justice in the form of affordable housing in a safe community. For the original residents who won in the face of immeasurable odds, we are The Dream, we are The Miracle.

Since 1983 inequality and gentrification have sped up quickly, and our mission has been made that much clearer. We rely on funds from grants, the City of Austin, and supporters in our community who recognize the power and importance of the fight to Keep Austin Affordable.

The average BCDC income is less than 30% of Austin’s median family income. We subsidize rents for 82% of our tenants who cannot afford market rate rent and do not receive federal assistance. In an average month, BCDC subsidizes more than $57,000 in rents for our tenants. The important work we do is costly and we can’t do it alone.

That’s where you come in. Your donation will help us provide critical affordable housing solutions for low-income and working families in Austin—those who need it most.

Every dollar you give brings us one step closer to building new homes, repairing existing ones, and providing families with the security and dignity they deserve. Nearly 80% of our funding goes straight to program expenses, directly to our tenants. Together, we can create stronger, more vibrant communities—one home at a time. Join us in making affordable housing a reality for all.
